Crosswind Craft: Breezy Butterfly Mobile

In Kona’s story, If Wishes Were Horses, each of the Wind Dancer’s magical halos gets out of control – especially Sirocco’s butterflies! Create your own breezy butterfly mobile with butterflies that will float and flutter in the breeze by following the directions below!

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Paper coffee filters
Watercolor paints and brushes
Clothespins
Construction Paper
Glue
Fishing line
Wire coat hanger

Optional:
Glitter glue
Markers and water in a spray bottle [instead of paints]

INSTRUCTIONS:
Color the coffee filters by dabbing on watercolor paint with a brush, or drawing designs with markers and then spritzing lightly with water to make the colors bleed into each other. For shimmer, add glitter glue designs.

When the filter has dried, pinch it in the middle, making the shape of a bow tie. Slide a clothespin onto it and fan out each side to resemble a butterfly’s wings.

Cut two thin strips of construction paper, approximately two inches long, and glue them to the clothespin as antennae.

Make multiples of these butterflies – any that don’t fit on your mobile can be clipped to curtains, bed frames, and more!

Tie a length of fishing line to the center of each butterfly for the mobile. Vary the lengths of fishing line for a full effect!

Shape the coat hanger into a figure eight and tie on your butterflies!

There you have it – a Breezy Butterfly Mobile! Make sure to take pictures of your mobiles and send them to us at winddancers@reevesintl.com! All of the Wind Dancers (but especially Sirocco!) would love to see all your beautiful butterflies!
